If you bought Chantix (varenicline) at a U.S. pharmacy between September 29, 2015 and September 17, 2021 and paid any amount out of pocket, you can file without receipts. Your payment is a share of the fund, capped at what you actually paid.
The FDA pulled all Chantix tablets in September 2021 after tests found a probable carcinogen, N-nitroso-varenicline. Pfizer denies wrongdoing and agreed to a $44 million fund for purchasers and insurers. The deadline is September 14, 2026.
You may qualify if
- ✓You bought Chantix at retail in the United States or its territories between September 29, 2015 and September 17, 2021.
- ✓You paid something out of pocket for it, since payments are proportional to what you paid.
- ✓Insurers, health plans, and benefits administrators that reimbursed Chantix purchases in that period can file as third-party payors.
What you need to file
No proof of purchase is needed to submit. The online form is five steps: confirm your purchase window, go to ChantixSettlement.com, self-report your prescription history and what you paid out of pocket, or download and mail the paper form postmarked by September 14, 2026, then save the confirmation.
Keep pharmacy receipts, insurance statements, or prescription records anyway. The administrator can ask for them, and your payment is capped at your documented spend.
Deadline and what you get
File by September 14, 2026. Preliminary approval came June 1, 2026, and the final hearing is October 13, 2026, with payments after that.
Payment is pro rata, based on what you paid, and never more than your out-of-pocket total. The consumer pool is up to 20% of the net fund, so how much you get depends on how many valid claims come in and how much they add up to.
Filing on the settlement site is free, and the administrator decides eligibility. The Payout app lists this settlement and links to the same form.

My insurance covered most of it. Can I still file?
Yes, if you paid any amount out of pocket, such as a copay. Your share is proportional to that amount.
I do not have any receipts. Is that a problem?
Not at submission. The form runs on self-reported purchase history. The administrator may request records later, so gather what you can.
